CLARKS SUMMIT — Atty. Malcolm MacGregor kicked off his campaign for Magisterial District Judge of the Abingtons by hosting a petition-signing party on Feb. 19 at the Ramada Inn in Clarks Summit.
MacGregor has handled thousands of legal proceedings, including trials, arbitrations, mediations, hearings, legal arguments and the taking of sworn deposition testimony over 25 years on behalf of families in courts across Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Fellow lawyers elected him president of the 766 member Lackawanna Bar Association in 2014 and president of the 2,200 member statewide Pennsylvania Association for Justice in the same year.
MacGregor has previously served as president of the Federal Bar Association’s Middle District Chapter as well as the Chair of the Pennsylvania Bar, Association’s Civil Litigation Council, comprised of both plaintiff and defense attorneys from across the state. Most recently, he was named to the Best Lawyers in America 2014.
He has served as solicitor to Glenburn Township and the North Abington Township Zoning Hearing Board, as well as having previously served as Clarks Summit Borough Solicitor. He is a frequent legal instructor for lawyers on legal issues both locally and across the state, as well as a presenter for students in local area schools on the Dangers of Distracted Driving.
MacGregor is a graduate of The University of Scranton and The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law in Washington, DC. He is a founding partner in the law firm of McDonald & MacGregor LLC, Scranton.
He and his wife, Ann, have lived in the Abington community for the past 25 years, raising their four children, Joshua, 23, Lily, 21, Sam, 16, and Isabel, 15, all Abington Heights students.
MacGregor has served as both commissioner and coach of the Abington Youth Boys Basketball League and coach for Girls AYBL for more than 15 years to the present. He has also volunteered as a longtime coach for Abington Youth Soccer and assistant coach for Abington Little League Baseball.
He has also co-chaired the sustaining fund drive for the Waverly Community House and the Comm Classic golf tournament, in addition to organizing children’s activities at The Comm.
He was an initial member of the Countryside Conservancy Board and co-chaired its auction fundraiser and Tailgate friend raiser picnics. He was also an initial member of the Abington Heights Educational Improvement Organization board (AHEIO), which worked with the Abington Heights School Board to provide tax credits to local businesses to fund special educational programs in the Abington Heights School District.
