A natural gas pipeline replacement project will snarl traffic on Wilkes-Barre Township Boulevard for the next three months in Wilkes-Barre and Wilkes-Barre Township.

UGI Utilities Inc. said the work will begin on Thursday and continue until the end of December to upgrade a high-pressure steel main under the busy roadway from Pine Street, across from the Home Depot to the Northampton Street exit ramp just south of the Sheetz convenience store.

Traffic will be restricted on the boulevard and intersecting side streets. One southbound lane will be closed daily between approximately 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Drivers are urged to consider alternate routes during the construction hours.

The affected intersections are at:

• Coal Street

• Highland Park Boulevard

• Scott Street

• Spring Street

• Mundy Street.

The upgrade is part of a UGI facility improvement project to help ensure the safe and reliable supply of natural gas to the area. UGI restores roadways at the conclusion of its projects as weather permits.
