SCRANTON — Marywood University’s Student Veterans Alliance (SVA) will host its third annual Operation: Tails for Troops from 12 to 4 p.m. April 18 at McDade Park, Scranton, benefiting the non-profit organization Paws and Stripes.

The goal of the event is to raise $10,000 to sponsor four wounded military veterans with post-traumatic stress or traumatic brain injuries, while at the same time rescuing four shelter dogs. There will be homemade dog treats for sale, a K-9 talent and dog pageant, baskets and 50/50 raffles, food and beverages, and additional local vendor sales.

Representatives of Paws and Stripes, New Mexico, will be at the event to answer questions about the non-profit organization. The dogs and training are provided to the veterans free of charge. The program facilitates healing, assists in building self-confidence in the veterans, helps increase bonds between veterans and the dogs, and provides the tools to maintain the dogs’ training long after graduation.

For more information about the event, contact the Student Veterans Alliance at Marywood University at 570-961-4584 or sva@m.marywood.edu.
