WILKES-BARRE — A man accused of a string of armed robberies in the Hazleton area pleaded guilty to two of them on Monday.

Kurt Mumie, 30, was arrested in April after police said he robbed two Hazleton convenience stores and an individual in West Hazleton, allegedly brandishing a handgun in all three cases.

Mumie pleaded guilty to counts of robbery and terroristic threats in the convenience store robberies. His sentencing was set to Nov. 20.

Police say that Mumie robbed Pence’s Store on Alter Street in Hazleton at around 4:45 p.m. on April 6 of this year, getting away with about $2,000.

That same week, on April 8, Mumie walked into the Pantry Quick on West Diamond Avenue in Hazleton, brandished a handgun and demanded all the money in the register. However, in this case, he was unable to get any money or merchandise, and fled south on North Lincoln Street.

Mumie has been ordered by Luzerne County Judge Michael T. Vough to pay restitution to Pence’s Store amounting to $778, and he’s also been ordered to have no contact with either of the stores and their owners.

When he was arrested, Mumie was also accused of robbing a male at around 4 p.m. on April 6, pointing a handgun in his face and demanding money, but it is unclear from court records why Mumie did not enter a plea on this charge.

He was remanded to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility.
