WILKES-BARRE — NEPA’s pancake lovers can now rejoice as they will no longer have to travel out of the area to get a taste of IHOP’s signature breakfast items.

Currently, the closest International House of Pancakes, known as IHOP is in Allentown.

However, a representative from the franchise’s corporate headquarters in Glendale, Calif., confirmed to the Times Leader Tuesday that the restaurant is expected to open in Wilkes-Barre in April 2018. Construction is currently under way at the location, 770 Kidder St., which is right in front of Days Inn.

The facility will have the capacity to seat approximately 160 guests and will be open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week, with a possibility of moving to a 24-hour schedule at some point, said Adam Korn, a senior communications manager with IHOP, in an e-mail.

Besides buttermilk pancakes, IHOP is also known for its omelettes, french toast and hickory smoked bacon. The restaurant’s opening will also bring around 130 new jobs to the community.
