FOSTER TWP. — An incident Saturday involving an apparent hostage situation and an armed man has left one woman dead and two injured, according to state police.

According to a news release:

A 51-year-old male contacted a friend and said that “something bad had happened” to his girlfriend.

The friend called 911 and officers from the Foster Township Police Department as well as state police responded to 15 Spring St. After arriving on scene, troopers could hear a female voice inside the residence asking for help.

Police believed that the male was armed and therefore created a perimeter around the residence and notified the Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team in order to combat a potential hostage situation.

The SERT team responded and began negotiating with the man . As negotiations were taking place, SERT members determined that entry into the residence was necessary. Once inside the home, the male was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A 46-year-old female believed to be the the man’s girlfriend was found dead and the mother of the deceased female, 72, was found with a head injury.

Both she and the male were taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Health Center for treatment. No other details including names of the victims are available at this time.
