PLAINS TWP. — A man being detained on domestic violence charges urinated on the floor of the cell he was being held in, according to charges.

Township police arrested Melvin James Stuart, 48, after his girlfriend, Catherine Garber, alleged he struck her during an argument Monday night.

Garber told officers Stuart struck her in the face inside a residence on North Main Street at about 8 p.m.

Police said Garber suffered facial injuries.

Stuart was detained and placed in a holding cell, where he urinated on the floor, according to a criminal complaint.

Stuart was arraigned Tuesday by District Judge Joseph Halesey in Hanover Township on charges of simple assault, harassment and criminal mischief. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $25,000 bail.
