WILKES-BARRE — City police and the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office remain silent about shooting suspect Robert Rodriguez, nearly two days after he was apprehended during a traffic stop on West End Road in Hanover Township.

For the second straight day, there was no record Wednesday of Rodriguez, 23, being incarcerated at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility and there is no court docket listing the charges filed against him, despite city police claiming an arrest warrant was issued for Rodriguez on Feb. 9.

A district judge had to approve the arrest warrant, which becomes public record when the district judge signs it.

City police in a news release posted on their Facebook page Monday stated, “… an arrest warrant was prepared and issued for the defendant (Rodriguez) on Feb. 9, 2018.” The news release further says Rodriguez was “incarcerated pending further court action in the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas to face charges of aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, reckless endangerment and weapons violations.”

Requests directed at District Judge Rick Cronauer’s office to see the arrest warrant and affidavit have been unsuccessful.

Multiple checks over the past two days of the county’s online court docket calendar did not reveal Rodriguez’s charges. Checks with the federal docket calendar also returned no results.

Police said Rodriguez was identified as a suspect in a shooting on Parrish Street on Feb. 2. A man was found with multiple gunshot wounds, police reported without identifying the victim.

Rodriguez, last known address as West Shawnee Avenue, Plymouth, was apprehended with assistance from Hanover Township police, State Police vice and patrol units, county detectives and officers assigned to the FBI Safe Streets Task Force.

District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis did not respond to a message seeking information about Rodriguez.
