WILKES-BARRE TWP. — A woman fleeing security officers after allegedly stealing items from Walmart Supercenter was spotted running in the middle of Highland Park Boulevard on Tuesday.

Township police captured Seara Peterson, 26, of North Empire Court, after an officer chased her through heavy traffic at about 7 p.m.

Police allege Peterson was with two girls, ages 11 and 9, concealing items in a backpack. As she approached the front of the store, Peterson allegedly met up with a man and ran from security officers, according to the criminal complaint.

Police said a backpack that was dropped during the chase contained $67.66 in unpaid merchandise.

Peterson was arraigned Wednesday in Luzerne County Central Court on a felony count of retail theft, and misdemeanor counts of corruption of minors and resisting arrest. She was released on $15,000 unsecured bail.
