PLAINS TWP. — A teacher was suspended with pay at the Solomon/Plains education complex pending results of an investigation, Wilkes-Barre Area School Board Solicitor Ray Wendolowski confirmed Monday.

Noting it is a personnel issue, Wendolowski declined to give additional information, but sources confirmed the incident was an allegation of interaction of the teacher with a student.

“There is an investigation going on with regards to a situation at Solomon/Plains,” Wendolowski said. Following district procedure, the teacher “was suspended with pay.”

The district is in the midst of resolving an unrelated problem with four teachers at GAR Memorial High School who were fired for allegedly drinking alcohol before and/or while serving as chaperones for school dance. The union filed a grievance and an arbitrator ruled in their favor, ordering the district to reinstate all four.

The district has appealed that order in Luzerne County Court, where the case was assigned to Judge Lesa Gelb. Both sides filed initial paperwork and are awaiting the hearing, Wendolowski said Monday
