SCRANTON — A Wilkes-Barre man pleaded guilty in federal court last week for his role in trafficking heroin in Luzerne County in 2014, authorities say.

Charles Davis III, 46, admitted to transporting Desmond Mercer, 30, to more than 600 heroin transactions and selling heroin for Mercer from February 2014 through November 2014, according to U.S. Attorney David J. Freed.

Davis admitted to distributing 100 to 400 grams of heroin, equivalent to 4,000 to 16,000 heroin packets, Freed said.

Mercer, identified by federal authorities as the leader of the drug ring, was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison. Co-conspirators Shaliek Stroman and Shaquan Murphy were each sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison.

Another co-conspirator, Antuan Jamison, was sentenced to five years.

Davis is set to be sentenced in May.
