WILKES-BARRE — An arrest warrant was issued for a Williamsport man when he failed to appear for a preliminary hearing in Luzerne County Central Court on drug related offenses.

Ishmil Waheed Harris, 34, was arrested by Lehman Township police during a traffic stop on state Route 415 on Feb. 26. During the stop, police removed a plastic bag allegedly containing crystal methamphetamine or crack cocaine from Harris’ pockets.

As the officer continued to search Harris, he allegedly swallowed the plastic bag and bit down on the officer’s fingers, according to arrest papers.

Harris was charged with two counts of simple assault and possession of drug paraphernalia and a single count of tampering with evidence. He was released after posting $250 bail on Feb. 26.

Harris failed to appear in central court for a preliminary hearing.

As a result, the charges were sent to county court and an arrest warrant was issued for Harris.
