WILKES-BARRE — A woman accused of assaulting paramedics while being transported to a hospital after a vehicle crash failed to appear for a preliminary hearing on Monday in Luzerne County Central Court.

An arrest warrant was issued for Jolene Gubitoso, 35, last known address as East First Street, Wyoming.

Wyoming police charged Gubitoso on Jan. 11 with punching a paramedic in the face and slapping another paramedic in the rear of an ambulance. The incident caused the ambulance to stop to await a police escort to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township.

Gubitoso was transported to the hospital for a foot injury she suffered in a vehicle crash in the area of 133 E. First St. Police found Gubitoso crying on a curb. She allegedly told police she ingested cocaine prior to the accident, and the driver of her vehicle had fled on foot.

Police allegedly found a razor blade with white residue and two bags with a white substance in a purse in Gubitoso’s vehicle.

Gubitoso was charged with two counts each of aggravated assault, simple assault and possession of drug paraphernalia, and one count each of disorderly conduct and operating a vehicle without insurance. Those charges were sent to county court.
