WILKES-BARRE — M&T Bank will shutter its location at 44 W. Market St. later this year, a representative of the Buffalo, N.Y.-based financial company said Monday.
“We continually evaluate all of our channels and look to optimize our branch network in order to meet evolving customer needs,” M&T spokesman Phillip Hosmer told the Times Leader when asked why the downtown branch is closing.
Its last day of operation will be Friday, June 15, Hosmer said. No other branch closures have been announced at this time in Northeastern Pennsylvania, he added.
All three employees at the West Market Street branch have been offered similar positions at nearby M&T branches, Hosmer said.
The nearest branch to West Market Street is off Coal Street near Wilkes-Barre Township Boulevard. M&T also has branches in Hanover Township, Forty Fort and Wyoming, as well as in the Back Mountain area and in Pittston Township.
M&T operates banks in New York, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Connecticut, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
