Cops: Gunman barricades himself in WB home, surrenders after standoff

WILKES-BARRE — A man surrendered without incident after barricading himself inside a residence on Lloyds Lane with multiple children inside early Friday, city police said.

Shatik Dawes, 29, of Brown Street, exited the Lloyds Lane house after a hostage negotiator was called to the scene, authorities report.

Police said the tense incident began on Brown Street where Dawes entered a house, grabbed a woman by the neck and began to strangle her just before 7:30 a.m. Dawes threatened to kill the woman with a gun he held to her head, officers said.

Dawes left the Brown Street residence and went to Lloyds Lane where he resisted arrest and ran into a house occupied by multiple children, according to authorities.

The hostage negotiator eventually got Dawes to exit the residence.

Police charged Dawes with two counts of illegal possession of a firearm, and one count each of terroristic threats, simple assault, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, harassment and disorderly conduct.
