PITTSTON — Some weather-ravaged streets will soon be repaired as council approved awarding a $110,174 paving contract with Pennsy Supply on Wednesday.

“We’ve been developing this for the last several weeks,” said city operations coordinator David Hines.“These roads are in deplorable condition, and the winter was the death for them.”

According to Hines, Penny Supply, of Pittston, will repave a major portion of Garfield Street, the last three blocks of West Oak Street, and all of West Frothingham Street.

Mayor Michael Lombardo said the project is set to begin within the next 30 to 60 days. He also commended the work of Hines and other city personnel for their efforts in ensuring the streets will be fixed.

“I would just, for council’s sake, acknowledge the efforts of Mr. Hines,” Lombardo said. “I think you’ve done a really good job through the previous administration and the beginning four months of this administration identifying priorities in terms of road work, and really looking at short-and long-term goals. So, I commend Dave on that … and it’s time to get some roads done.”
