WILKES-BARRE — A pants-less man not wearing underwear was arrested late Wednesday on charges he assaulted a 66-year-old man who suffered facial injuries including swelling the size of a baseball around his eye, city police said.
Police said the assault occurred just before 10:30 p.m. at a residence in the 800 block of South Main Street where they found a partially nude Shawn Kuhns, 39, sitting on outside steps.
Police said Kuhns was not wearing pants and underwear, exposing himself to people passing by.
According to a criminal complaint:
Ronald Gayton approached responding officers saying, “He beat me,” and pointing to Kuhns. Gayton displayed massive swelling above his left eye and had swelling and bruises under his right eye and a bloody nose. Gayton also complained of abdomen pain.
Gayton told police Kuhns was highly intoxicated, upset and talked about his children and ex-girlfriend. Gayton tried to calm Kuhns who grew more agitated.
Gayton claimed Kuhns violently attacked him, punching him multiple times in the face and ribs when he threatened to call 911.
Gayton said he was not able to defend himself.
Kuhns told police: “I screwed up.”
The suspect had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and red, glassy eyes.
Gayton was treated at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Kuhns was arraigned Thursday in Luzerne County Central Court on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, indecent exposure and open lewdness. He was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
