WILKES-BARRE — City police said a woman walking with her boyfriend and their dog shot another dog that attacked them and their pet in the area of South Regent and Brook streets Sunday morning.

Police said a 33-year-old woman reported she was with her boyfriend walking their dog when they were attacked by a pit bull that broke free allegedly from Alejandro Loria, 27, of South Regent Street, at about 8 a.m.

Alejandro was walking her pit bull when it broke free, police said.

Attempts were made to remove the pit bull from attacking the other dog.

Police said the woman fired two rounds from a firearm striking the pit bull once causing it to stop its actions.

Police said the woman was legally permitted to possess a firearm.

An official with animal enforcement transported the injured dog for treatment.

Police said Alejandro was cited with dogs running at large.
