Woman charged with stealing items from Hanover Township store

HANOVER TWP. — A woman from Scranton was arraigned Monday on charges she stole items from Family Dollar on Carey Avenue earlier this month.

Township police allege Julie Lauren Morales, 45, of Luzerne Street, concealed multiple items inside a purse while in the store May 1.

When a store manager confronted Morales, she reached into her purse and threw body spray, soap, conditioner and make-up wipes at the manager and other employees, according to a criminal complaint.

Police said a surveillance camera recorded Morales stealing sandwich bags, polish, towelettes and other items valued at about $60.

Police received tips after posting a picture of a woman on their Facebook page taken from a store surveillance camera.

Morales was arraigned by District Judge Alexandra Kokura Kravitz in Luzerne County Central Court on charges of retail theft and receiving stolen property. She was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
