ASHLEY — Police are investigating the Sunday death of an Ashley man in an apparent stabbing after he was found unresponsive in a borough home.

A news release from the Pennsylvania State Police Troop P Wyoming sent out Sunday afternoon said Brian Breymeier, 31, was found unresponsive in a South Main Street home just before noon.

The release does not indicate when Breymeier was pronounced dead, but does label the incident as a “death investigation.”

According to State Police, their Major Case Team is investigating Breymeier’s death and are joined by Ashley Police, Luzerne County Detectives and the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office.

Officials are reporting that Breymeier suffered apparent stab wounds, but District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis said in a text message to a Times Leader reporter Sunday evening that Breymeier’s death could not yet be called a homicide.

The release said investigators were assisted on scene by Sugar Notch and Hanover Township Police, along with Hanover Medic 9 and Ashley Borough Fire Department.
