PLAINS TWP. — Larry O’Malia’s greenhouse on River Road was hopping Monday morning. After what seemed like neverending rain, the sun was finally out and skies were blue. Customers were picking out fruit and vegetable plants like tomatoes, peppers and watermelon as well as blooms of every color. Some were preparing for Memorial Day by picking up flower filled logs, while others simply looked for flowers to dress up their homes. Gregory Stella, 80, of Plains grabbed zinnias he will plant and looks forward to people slowing to see his flowers. Meanwhile, Derek Zelenski and son Dylan, 8, were on the search for vegetable plants as part of Dylan’s home school program. The duo passed up arugula and cabbage but made sure to grab some peppers and celery plants. O’Malia said the threat of frost has passed and anyone planting in the valley will not need to worry about that. His main concern now is the wet ground, making it difficult to till and plant.
