TL debuts new augmented reality app offering more to readers, advertisers

Get ready for your favorite Times Leader news stories, features and advertisements to jump right off the page.

The newspaper is releasing its exclusive new augmented reality app today – TL Step Inside.

It will allow our readers to scan pieces of our newspaper products and view digital content – videos, photos, podcasts and more.

“Bringing your news to life is now a reality!” Times Leader publisher Mike Murray said. “Our new TL Step Inside app takes newspaper content to an entirely new level. Stories will be enhanced by photo galleries, videos, supporting documents and live reports. Advertisers can grow their brand and website traffic simply by running a print ad. Our readers have always enjoyed their Times Leader reading experience. Now, we have taken it up a notch with augmented reality, literally bring your news to life!”

Augmented reality, or AR, is defined as an enhanced version of reality where live direct or indirect views of physical real-world environments are augmented with superimposed computer-generated images over a user’s view of the real world, thus enhancing one’s perception of reality.

AR uses a smartphone’s camera to recognize a specific image or text on the page, which allows the reader to then view digital content.

For example, scan our Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders story inside sports today to hear DJ Eberle’s latest “Riding the Rails” podcast.

And check out today’s special section for a complete description of our new app and plenty of digital content. Business owners will want to be sure to check out the special section to learn how to get the most out of their advertisements. You can download TL Step Inside from your App Store, Google Play or through the menu on the TL news app.

Do it. Do it, now. You can thank us later.
