Deli, apartment damaged by fire in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE — A deli and an apartment were gutted by a fire overnight in Wilkes-Barre.

City firefighters responded to 362 Scott St. at about 2 a.m. encountering heavy smoke and flames coming from the first floor. Flames spread to the second floor and attic.

The building houses C & A Mini Market on the first floor and an apartment on the second floor.

The Red Cross of Wyoming Valley were called to assist two tenants.

Firefighters had the fire under control in about three hours.

There was extensive fire and smoke damage throughout the three story structure.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Fire Chief Jay Delaney could not be reached for comment Tuesday morning.

Kingston firefighters assisted at the scene.

A city fire inspector is investigating the cause of the blaze.
