FORTY FORT — A Saturday afternoon fire caused minimal damage to an apartment house thanks to a borough police officer who threw water on the flames, officials report.
The blaze at 1173 Wyoming Ave. broke out just before 3 p.m.
A passer-by called 911, saying there appeared to be a fire on the second floor of a residence.
A Forty Fort police officer was the first to arrive and forced his way inside. He knocked down most of the fire by tossing water on it, officials say.
Nobody was home at the time of the incident.
Kingston Fire Chief Frank Guido determined the cause of the fire was accidental.
“The quick response by the Forty Fort police and fire departments prevented what could have been a major disaster,” said Forty Fort Mayor Andy Tuzinski.
“‘I’m glad that when you call 911 in Forty Fort, the first responders act fast.”
