WILKES-BARRE — A Hazleton police officer’s wife tracked down a missing man from Hazleton in Wilkes-Barre.

According to a police report:

Hazleton police have been attempting to locate Luis Penza, 71, of Hazleton, after he was reported missing on June 6 from the Hazleton City Personal Care Home.

It had been documented that Penza suffers from multiple health issues that require medications.

Allison McAlarney, the wife of Corporal Keith McAlarney recognized, Luis Penza sitting on a park bench at approximately 12 p.m. Monday.

McAlarney contacted her husband, who then contacted the Luzerne County Communications Center.

Penza was taken to the hospital by EMS, but he didn’t appear to be in grave danger.

“Clearly, Allison is the unsung hero and the quick thinking all around was amazing,” said Hazleton Police Chief Jerry Speziale. “We are grateful for all involved in returning Penza safely.”
