Luzerne County restaurant inspections: June 17 through June 24

The following are recent Luzerne County restaurant inspection reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. According to the agency: “any inspection is a ‘snapshot’ of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Beaumont Inn, 4437 SR309, Dallas: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Bearded Food employees observed in prep area, not wearing a beard cover. Exit door located in the kitchen area of the food facility has a gap at the floor door junction and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals.

Convenient Food Mart No. 3005, 283 Pierce St., Kingston: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: All inside surfaces of the microwave oven, a food contact surface, was observed to have dried food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. The inside of the microwave was cleaned and sanitized during this inspection. The sinks were cleaned during this inspection.

Pizza Bella, 31 Lake St., Dallas: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. The floor surface inside of the reach in (single door) refrigeration unit in the kitchen has an accumulation of food debris and in need of cleaning. Floor tiles in the kitchen (in front of the pizza oven, and Pepsi and two door refrigeration units) are cracked/ broken with pieces missing and is not a smooth, easily cleanable surface.

Primo Hoagies, 1020 Wilkes-Barre Twp. Blvd., Wilkes-Barre: Change of owner inspections: Violations: Cut vegetables, dressing, tomato sauce were held at 54-57 °F, in the Bain Marie area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Foods were discarded. Observed an ambient temperature of 59*F in one Bain Marie rather than 41*F or less as required. Unit will be serviced prior to storage of TCS foods. Observed a build up of residue on the back edge of the ice chute on the self serve beverage machine. Observed single-service, single-use articles stored in closet area directly on the floor, and not 6 inches above the floor.

Mizu Sushi Hibachi Inc., 244 Highland Park Blvd., Wilkes-Barre: Regular inspection, out of compliance. Violations: The Person in Charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. An open employee’s beverage container was observed in prep area, a food preparation area. Beverage was removed from area. Observed mold like substance on the exterior of 4 bottles of liquor in the refrigeration unit in the bar area. Bottles were discarded. Observed small flies in 8 bottles of liquor in the bar area. Bottles were discarded. Observed a build up of rust on shelves in the walk in cooler. Observed 5 small ants in the sink area at the bar. Observed live and dead flying ants along the gasket in the Pepsi cooler. Area was cleaned. Observed too numerous to count small flies in multiple locations in the facility. (bar area, wait staff area, prep areas). Observed a build up of debris and grime on the floor throughout the facility. Observed ROP fish being thawed under refrigeration without being removed from the packaging as stated on the package. Observed a build up of dust on the fan guard in the walk in cooler. Observed a build up of black residue around the gasket on the ice machine. Observed a build up of food residue around the edges and hinges of the Bain Marie.

Nino’s Pizza, 162 SR 239, Shickshinny: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Raw eggs were stored above ready to eat food (Butter) in the reach in refrigeration unit. The eggs were moved to the bottom shelf during this inspection.

Patterson Grove Camp Meeting Association, 1128 Bethel Hill Rd., Shickshinny: Regular inspection, in compliance.

The Vitamin Shoppe, 280 Mundy St., Wilkes-Barre: Regular inspection, in compliance.

Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, 1000 E. Mountain Dr., Wilkes-Barre: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Observed a build up of dust on the piping in the walk in dairy cooler. Piping was cleaned during this inspection. Observed a build up of residue in the cracks around the nozzle area on the dairy machine. Observed debris under shelves in storage area. Area was cleaned during this inspection.

The Garden Mediterranean Cafe, 540 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston: Regular inspection, in compliance. Violations: Observed plastic utensil to be deteriorating and in need of replacement. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Food employees observed in prep area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets or hats. Observed 50 old rodent like droppings in the back area of the facility. PIC cleaned the area during this inspection.
