SWOYERSVILLE — A woman is dead after being crushed by her own car Wednesday evening, borough police said.

Information about the victim has not yet been released.

Police were dispatched to Townsend Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. for a report that a vehicle had rolled over onto an individual.

Swoyersville police Sgt. Kyle Castner said the owner of the car was struck by her own vehicle.

“This is one of those freak accidents,” Castner said. “It could happen to anyone who forgets to put their car in park.”

There was no appearance of any criminal activity, Castner said, but the incident remained under investigation later Wednesday.

Efforts to reach Luzerne County Coroner William Lisman were not immediately successful.
