FREELAND — Borough police charged a man after he was identified in surveillance pictures as the person who allegedly stole cash from a woman’s wallet in May.

Yalexis Peguero, 21, of St. Johns Drive, Freeland, was arraigned Tuesday on charges he swiped a wallet from a table inside The Other Side Bar and Grill on May 11.

Police said Peguero was identified after releasing surveillance pictures from the restaurant via social media.

According to a criminal complaint:

A woman reported that cash from her wallet was stolen while she was playing pool with three other people at The Other Side.

Surveillance cameras recorded a man with an Afro hair style and carrying a “man” purse approach a table and take a wallet. Minutes later, the man returns to the same table and leaves the wallet, while walking to another table where a camera recorded him counting money.

Peguero was arraigned by District Judge Joseph Spagnuolo Jr. in Luzerne County Central Court on two counts of theft and receiving stolen property. He was jailed at the county correctional facility for lack of $2,000 bail.
