PITTSTON — City council Wednesday passed a resolution establishing a schedule of fees and fines designed to improve quality-of-life issues.
The 29 fees range from $25 to $250 depending on the violation, which can include illegal signs/billboards, improper storage, shrub and brush maintenance, and prohibited occupancy.
Council’s latest move follows passage of an ordinance in May establishing quality-of-life regulations for the city.
A sweep of Pittston’s Oregon Heights section took place last week by the city’s newly formed Neighborhood Action Team (NAT), which issued violations to 27 different properties.
More unannounced sweeps are planned in the areas of Searle, Mill and Carroll streets.
Also during the meeting, council members approved an ordinance to dedicate Grandview Drive as a city street.
The street was privately owned by Stauffer Pointe Development Group LLC but will now be taken over by the city. It will maintain it as it would any other street, including paving, cleaning, sewer repairs and snow removal.
“The ordinance will be effective within 10 days,” said city solicitor Sam Falcone. “I will record the deed of dedication, and at that point in time it will become a city street.”
In addition to the ordinance, council members passed a resolution to ratify a development agreement between Pittston and Stauffer to develop 44 new housing units in the Grandview Drive section.
