WILKES-BARRE — A man from New York City suffered a gunshot wound as he drove away with a woman after a fight erupted in the area of Ali Baba Lounge on South Main Street early Thursday, city police said.

Police identified the man as Collin Jones, 26, of Brooklyn.

Jones was found with a gunshot wound inside a Nissan Rouge that crashed into a utility pole at South Main and South streets at about 1:41 a.m., police said.

A woman inside the SUV was not injured.

Police believe Jones and the woman, whose name was not released, were in the area of Ali Baba when a fight erupted involving several people.

The fight spilled out onto the street.

As Jones and the woman got into the Nissan and began driving away, police said one or more people engaged in gunfire.

Police said Jones was shot inside his vehicle that struck a utility pole about one-half block away.

Jones crashed the SUV near the Max Rosenn United States Federal Courthouse building that has several surveillance cameras on its exterior walls.

Police said Jones was treated at the scene and transported to a local trauma center.

Troopers with the state police Forensic Services Unit collected evidence as part of the investigation.

The crash knocked out traffic signals at the intersection, which was closed for repairs during the morning commute.

Anyone with information about the fight and shooting is asked to call Wilkes-Barre police detectives at 570-208-4224.
