WILKES-BARRE — City police reported Collin Jones, 26, who suffered a gunshot wound as he drove away from a fight in the area of Ali Baba Lounge on South Main Street early Thursday, has died.
Jones, of Brooklyn, N.Y., died Saturday at Commonwealth Health Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, police said.
An autopsy by forensic pathologist Dr. Gary Ross revealed Jones died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Luzerne County Coroner William Lisman listed Jones’ manner of death as a homicide.
Police said Jones was shot as he drove away in a Nissan Rogue from a fight in the area of Ali Baba at about 1:41 a.m. Thursday. Jones crashed into a utility pole at South Main and South streets, police said.
A woman inside the SUV was not injured.
Police believe Jones and the woman, whose name was not released, were in the area of the lounge when a fight erupted involving several people.
As the fight spilled out onto the street, Jones and the woman got into the Nissan and drove away when one or more people engaged in gunfire, police said.
