Many of us enjoyed a rain-free Wednesday morning and early afternoon before Mother Nature turned on the spigot again, causing havoc across the area with closed roads, downed power lines and flooded basements.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Luzerne County last night as many waterways had reached their limit due to five days of heavy rains.

Flooded roads included:

• Route 11 in Plymouth Township, West Nanticoke, and headed south toward Hunlock Creek.

• Route 29.

• Shickshinny Valley Road in Salem Township; Hunlock, Harveyville and Zackery roads in Hunlock Township.

• Areas around Hunlock Creek Road/Main Road and Cragle Road in Hunlock Creek.

Officials remind motorists to turn around when encountering flooded roads. Do not try to drive through the water. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Meanwhile, in Luzerne County, 935 customers were without power as of 10:30 p.m., according to PPL. Most of those were in the area of Salem Township, near Berwick.

UGI was reporting over 1,300 without electricity as of late last night, including about 1,100 in Fairmount Township and Huntington Township.
