WILKES-BARRE TWP. — A car crashed into Perkins Restaurant & Bakery going through a window in the rear of the restaurant.
Township police, fire and EMS responded to a call approximately 4:30 p.m. that a motor vehicle crashed into the Perkins at 1085 Wilkes-Barre Township Boulevard on Sunday afternoon.
A car with New York State license plates allegedly rolled over the parking bumper block from the Econo Lodge and rolled down the 15-foot incline into the back of the restaurant.
The woman in the driver’s seat hopped out of the moving car before it struck and shattered the window.
“I heard a huge crash,” said Perkins guest service manager Catherine Blum. “We hear loud noises like a plate or cup smash, but when I saw a car in the window, I had to act quick.
“When I ran outside, I called 9-1-1.”
According to Blum, 20 people were dining in the restaurant while 10 staff members were on hand.
“Thank God no one was injured,” Blum mentioned. “Luckily no one was dining in the back of the restaurant, they were eating up front.”
Although the damage was minimal, Blum was unsure if the restaurant would have to close for the rest of the day.
The vehicle was towed away.
