W-B man charged with raping child

WILKES-BARRE — City police arrested a city man on allegations he raped a girl inside a residence on Myers Court several years ago.

Michael J. Jenkins, 21, of Myers Court, was arrested after the girl was interviewed at the Lackawanna County Children’s Advocacy Center in May. During the interview, she claimed Jenkins pushed her onto a bed and sexually assaulted her during the spring of 2014, according to the criminal complaint.

Police said the girl reported Jenkins held a pillow over her face and choked her during the assault, the complaint says.

The girl’s father allegedly found out about the assault and punched Jenkins in the face.

Jenkins was arraigned Friday by District Judge Brian Tupper in Kingston Township on charges of rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and aggravated assault. He remained jailed Monday at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $250,000 bail.
