WILKES-BARRE — City police arrested Jesus Alvira, 55, after a woman claimed he choked her and banged her head off the floor in a Sambourne Street home Monday.

According to a criminal complaint:

An officer heard banging and yelling coming from 106 Sambourne St. just before 6:30 p.m.

A woman was in the front window screaming for help.

When the woman opened the door, she claimed Alvira, who resides at the house, wouldn’t let her leave.

After the woman was removed, Alvira was spotted in the front room. He told the officer he wasn’t allowed to enter the house.

The woman later claimed Alvira locked her in a bedroom and wouldn’t let her out. She alleged Alvira pulled her hair, choked her and banged her head against the floor.

When she walked downstairs, she claimed Alvira pushed her down and again shoved her head against the floor.

Alvira was arraigned Tuesday by District Judge Joseph Halesey in Hanover Township on charges of simple assault, strangulation and harassment. He’s in the county lockup for lack of $25,000 bail.
