WILKES-BARRE — Residents in the North End, Heights, and Brookside neighborhoods with a Tuesday collection day will have large items collected Monday, Aug. 20, if they purchase large-item collection stickers.
The special pickup will begin at 6 a.m.
Residents in North End, Heights, and Brookside may purchase up to two collection stickers before Aug. 20 from the following locations:
• Tax Office, 1st Floor, City Hall, 40 E. Market St.; Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Hollenback Golf Course, 1050 N. Washington St.; Sunday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Residents from Mayflower, Rolling Mill Hill, Iron Triangle, Goose Island, South Wilkes-Barre 2, East End, Parsons, and Miners Mills who have not yet had large items collected may also purchase up to two collection stickers. Permit stickers are $10 per item or container (65-lb. max per container). Each residence may purchase stickers for up to two items/containers (limit one item/container per sticker). There is a limit of two stickers per household. Commercial properties and high-rises are excluded from the pickup. Stickers must be attached to each item/container.
Items accepted: furniture, mattresses, washers, dryers, hot water heaters, refrigerators with doors removed, stoves, dishwashers, compactors, chest freezers, water coolers, dehumidifiers, and containers of household junk up to 65 pounds.
Items not accepted: electronics (televisions, microwaves, computers, stereos, etc.), rugs, dishes, lamps, tires, car batteries, recyclables, residential waste, and yard waste.
The city offered these additional instructions:
• All items must be placed at the curbside for collection by 6 a.m. pickup day.
• Stickers must be attached to each item/container.
• The city cannot remove any items from homes or backyards.
• Crews will not return to homes that did not place their items outside in time for pickup.
• Please ensure that items are kept off the street and sidewalk.
• Some streets may require temporary “No Parking Zones” so that all items are picked up.
• If you observe illegal dumping, immediately call 911 and be prepared to provide descriptions of persons, vehicles and/or license plates of those dumping.
