HANOVER TWP. — A township man was arraigned Thursday on charges he raped a woman after a night of drinking beer with friends in May.

Keith David Eichler, 19, of Steele Street, surrendered on rape and related offenses for allegedly raping a woman inside his residence while his parents were away the night of May 12 and May 13.

The woman reported it to police nearly two months later on July 11.

According to a criminal complaint:

The woman said she was invited by a male friend to hang out at Eichler’s house because his parents were away that weekend. She knew Eichler and another man in the house but never hung out with them.

Police said the woman, Eichler and two other men were at the residence.

She told police she arrived at Eichler’s house between 11:30 p.m. and midnight and planned to stay the night as she consumed alcohol. She estimated she consumed four beers.

While in the kitchen, she claimed Eichler got some type of pill capsule he said was steroids. Eichler emptied the capsule and snorted its powder.

She stayed awake with Eichler, playing with his dog, while the two other men fell asleep in different rooms.

After the woman and Eichler used the bathroom, she said Eichler walked toward her, causing her to walk backward into a bedroom where she fell onto a bed.

Eichler sexually assaulted her despite telling him “no” and “stop.” She told police she may have passed out during the assault.

When she woke up, she alerted the two other men to what happened.

She told police she put the clothing she wore to Eichler’s house under her bed when she got home.

During an interview with police, Eichler denied knowing the woman and denied sexually assaulting anyone, telling detectives he would never do anything like that. He claimed whenever his parents go away, he has friends over and doesn’t mind if his friends invite other friends as long as they don’t trash the house.

Eichler was arraigned by District Judge Thomas Malloy in Wilkes-Barre on charges of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, sexual assault and indecent assault. He was released after posting $25,000 bail.
