WILKES-BARRE — North River Street between Maple Street and Courtright Avenue will be closed starting Monday, Aug. 20, at 7:30 a.m. for work by the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority.

The authority will be installing a new 30-inch diameter wastewater interceptor line beneath the street, a press release says.

The project is expected to take six to eight weeks, but the schedule depends on the weather.

The section of North River where the work will occur will be closed to thru-traffic, and a detour approved by PennDOT will take drivers around the area.

The release also notes:

“Access to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital from the north, via the southbound lane on North River Street, will remain open. Access to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital from the south for northbound traffic should be made via North Main and West Maple streets.”

Meanwhile, local traffic on Hollenback, O’Neil and Kulp avenues will be accessible via North Main and West Maple streets.
