KINGSTON — A Shavertown man was killed in a vehicle crash that damaged a greenhouse and the drive-thru at PNC Bank on Thursday night.

Luzerne County Chief Deputy Coroner Dan Hughes identified the victim as 67-year-old Gary Walters, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hughes said the cause of death was multiple traumatic injuries. No autopsy was performed.

Walters was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

Police have not released any details about the crash, and Chief Michael Krzywicki could not be reached for comment Friday.

According to Times Leader media partner FOX 56, the crash happened at about 9 p.m. on West Union Street. A witness said she was getting cash at the drive-thru ATM when she heard the sound of twisting metal.

She accelerated her vehicle, avoiding a white sedan that rolled into support columns at the drive-thru.

A trail of broken glass and debris littered the ground for about 40 yards from the Floristry by Carmen Bolin greenhouse on West Union Street to the drive-thru at the rear of the PNC Bank on Wyoming Avenue.
