LUZERNE — Call it a win-win.
On Sunday, Dallas resident Lesley Banks was turned loose inside the Gerrity’s Supermarkets’ Luzerne store with three minutes to collect as many groceries as she could.
Banks was the winner of a shopping spree raffle ticket contest to aid a local social service provider Help Line/2-1-1.
Family Service Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania partnered with Gerrity’s Supermarkets, Lita and Leonard Insalaco and Allied Services on the raffle.
For her efforts, Banks went home with $510.17 in free groceries.
“Can’t say I’ve ever won anything quite as awesome as this opportunity,” said Banks, a 5th grade teacher with the Wyoming Valley West School District
Proceeds raised from raffle tickets will benefit Help Line/2-1-1 which has provided 24/7 telephone information, referral, advocacy, and after hours crisis support for the past 46 years.
The service is available to 17 counties across Northeastern Pennsylvania, and 85,420 callers were connected to resources last year. In recent years, Help Line also added texting capabilities.
