HANOVER TWP. — State Police at Wyoming have released more information on a Sunday crash that closed both northbound lanes of Interstate 81 between the Nuangola and Ashley/Sugar Notch exits.

Police believe Earl L. Brewer, 74, of McAlisterville, Juanita County, was driving the wrong way — south in the northbound lanes — for approximately 2 miles.

At 5:20 p.m., Brewer’s 2013 Dodge Avenger smashed head-on with a 2010 Infiniti G37X driven by Luis D. Rosa, 23, of Wilkes-Barre, according to troopers.

Rosa had a child in a car seat at the time of the crash. Both were transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township for evaluation, police say. They believe the child suffered only on a minor injury.

Police did not indicate what injuries Brewer suffered. He was also taken by ambulance to Geisinger Wyoming Valley.

Meanwhile, a third driver, Angelina A. Morris, 36, of Bloomsburg, swerved her car to miss Brewer’s vehicle and was not injured.

Police did note that all the drivers were wearing seat belts.

I-81 traffic was backed up for miles while cleanup crews cleared debris from the crash.

The report says Brewer will be cited with multiple traffic offenses.
