AVOCA — A man killed when struck by a train near York Avenue Thursday morning is being ruled an accident, according to the Luzerne County coroner’s office.

John Miles, 27, of Moosic, was struck by a train about 100 yards from the railroad crossing on York Avenue at about 7 a.m., Chief Deputy Coroner Daniel Hughes said.

Hughes said the death is being ruled an accident as there was no note found at the scene. Hughes pronounced Miles’ dead at the scene at about 7:45 a.m.

An autopsy is not planned.

Avoca Police Chief Dave Homschek could not immediately be reached for comment.
