HAZLETON — A teenager pulled over on a main city thoroughfare was found to be in possession of about 600 bags of heroin and a small amount of methamphetamine, Hazleton Police Chief Jerry Speziale reports.

Officers said Andreina M. Acosta, 18, of West Hazleton, had 50 bags of heroin in her vehicle during a traffic stop on South Church Street, which is Route 309 through Hazleton.

Officers stopped a Mercedes-Benz on South Church at approximately 5 p.m. Friday.

After they found the 50 bags in the car, they said they found hundreds of other bags and the meth when Acosta herself was searched.

Her Mercedes was towed and she was transported to Hazleton Police headquarters for processing.

She was arraigned Saturday morning by Hazle Township District Judge James M. Dixon on a felony drug count of possession with intent to deliver, plus two misdemeanor counts each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Acosta was remanded to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $50,000 bail.

Hazleton Police are seen next to a Mercedes-Benz they pulled over Friday on South Church Street. Chief Jerry Speziale reports the teen driving the vehicle was caught with about 600 packets of heroin.
