DURYEA — Coxton Road between Main Street and the Lackawanna County line will be closed indefinitely due to flood damage, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
An inspection revealed surface damage and erosion caused by flooding.
A rainy summer caused rocks and dirt on the mountain to wash away and the ground has shifted in various locations, according to a news release from PennDOT.
Because smaller rocks have fallen onto the roadway surface, PennDOT must ensure there is no immediate danger to the public by opening the road. Until repairs to the road are finished and inspections of the mountain is complete, Coxton Road will remain closed.
Work is expected to take several weeks to complete and there is no timetable when Coxton Road will reopen.
