COVINGTON TWP. — A woman was killed and other passengers injured when a commercial bus crashed on Interstate 380 in Lackawanna County on Sunday night, state police at Dunmore reported.

State police identified the deceased passenger as 33-year-old Rebecca Renee Blanco, of Vacaville, Calif. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lackawanna County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner’s office said Blanco died of multiple traumatic injuries after the bus left the road and struck several trees. The coroner lists Blanco as being from New York City.

The Ithaca Journal newspaper in New York reported Blanco graduated from Cornell University with a Master of Business Administration in 2017.

The private charter bus traveling south on I-380 lost control and drove into woods near the Daleville exit just after 9 p.m., state police reported.

Multiple passengers were transported to area hospitals, and one was flown to a hospital, troopers said.

Both lanes of I-380 were closed for several hours before reopening at about 3 a.m. Monday.

The crash remains under investigation.
