PLAINS TWP. — A man who served three months in prison for physically abusing a woman in Ashley in 2016 was arrested Thursday by Plains Township police on allegations he assaulted a pregnant woman.

Police arrested Joshua Anthony Kijewski, 28, after the woman reported he threw her on the floor, causing her to land on her stomach. Kijewski then choked her to the point of unconsciousness during an argument inside his residence in the East Mountain Ridge Trailer Court, the woman told officers.

Police said the woman received treatment at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

Court records say Kijewski was sentenced in February 2017 to three to 23 months in prison on a simple assault charge in connection to abusing his then wife inside a residence on Janet Street, Ashley, in July 2016. She alleged he abused her over several days, including choking her until she blacked out. She awoke to Kijewski slapping her in the face, court records say.

Kijewski’s arrest Thursday stemmed from allegations by another woman.

New charges

According to the criminal complaint:

Police said the woman reported Kijewski was upset because she went to see an ex-boyfriend. When she refused his request to see her phone, Kijewski “gripped her up” and threw her on a couch.

She claimed Kijewski then threw her onto a floor, causing her to land on her stomach. He then began choking her, causing blurry vision before she passed out, the complaint says.

She said she woke up when her 7-year-old child shook her.

Kijewski was arraigned Friday by District Judge Brian Tupper in Kingston Township on charges of strangulation, simple assault and harassment. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail.
