WRIGHT TWP. — There will be no school for all Crestwood students today because of a busing issue found through an audit, according to school board president Bill Jones.

The board held an emergency executive session Tuesday night after discovering a transportation issue at approximately noon, officials say.

Neither Jones nor district solicitor Jack Dean would elaborate on what exactly that issue was. However, Dean did say teachers accompanied students on every bus after class Tuesday.

“Right now, the busing company is not in compliance with the state or our contract,” said Jones. “We will have another meeting tomorrow (Wednesday). By approximately 4 p.m., we’ll have some sort of idea where we’re going.”

He said Rinehimer Bus Lines is the district’s transportation provider.

“There’s a liability factor on our part if we were to let the buses run,” Jones continued. “We’re not going to do that. Safety first.”

Jones said school leaders have many issues to discuss with the state to find out their next steps.

As for when class would be back in session, Jones said: “I can’t give any definite answer at this point.”

But Crestwood will use another busing company to transport students to any sporting events scheduled today, according to Jones.

He stressed the issues deal with the vendor, not district employees.

And solicitor Dean said the ongoing transportation audit was being done as a matter of routine, and it was not prompted by any particular problem.

“We’ll have more information tomorrow (Wednesday),” Dean said. “Standby for updates.”
