WILKES-BARRE TWP. — If you were planning on seeing Kenny Chesney when he plays the Mohegan Sun Arena in May, you better already have your tickets: The show now holds the fastest sellout record for the arena’s 20-year history.

Chesney will be taking the stage May 10 as part of his Songs for the Saints 2019 Tour, and tickets went on sale Friday morning. They promptly sold out only 10 minutes later.

That beats the previous record set by Blake Shelton in 2016, who sold out his show in 12 minutes.

A press release from the arena said Chesney’s show is going to be a “historic night.”

Chesney, originally from Knoxville, Tenn., is no stranger to this sort of success, with more than 40 top 10 singles in the Billboard country charts. His popularity has often led to other sold-out shows.

In the release, Chesney explained that he wants this tour to be a means of escape for the folks who were lucky enough to score a ticket.

“One thing people who’ve been coming to see us know is that every night, I tell people, ‘Whatever your problems are, I want you to leave them out there… and for one night, I want you to forget about it, and have the time of your life,’” he explains in the release.

“It’s not that we don’t have serious songs, or heartbreak songs, but I want people to feel what they need to feel, sing as loud as they can and have the kind of night everybody needs to feel the best part of being alive.”
