WILKES-BARRE – If you’d like to skate where the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins skate, you’ll have a chance this week.

Just bring a new, unwrapped toy or a $5 contribution for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program to the Mohegan Sun Arena, and you can take part in an open skate 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Complimentary snacks will be available for guests, courtesy of Utz Snack Foods, and light refreshments will be available for purchase with partial proceeds donated to Toys for Tots.

All guests in attendance will have the opportunity to win prizes, including tickets to the Harlem Globetrotters, Disney On Ice, World Championship Ice Racing, Justin Moore, Steve Martin and Martin Short, The Roadshow Tour, WWE Smackdown Live, TOBYMAC, Monster Jam and club seats for a Penguins game.

Skaters from the Diamond City Figure Skating Club will perform and “Santa Tux” from the Penguins will make an appearance.

This is the only day throughout the year that the public is allowed to skate on the ice at Mohegan Sun Arena. Patrons must bring their own skates. Mohegan Sun Arena will not have skates on site for rent, and all guests who will be going onto the ice will need to be wearing skates.

Skate rentals are available at the Toyota SportsPlex (Community Ice Rink) at Coal Street in Wilkes-Barre for $3 per pair starting at 4 p.m. Wednesday. There are a limited number of skate rentals available. Proper photo ID and a credit card must be presented to rent skates. All skates must be returned to the Toyota SportsPlex before 1 p.m. Friday.
