Police: Man KO’d

in fight at Sheetz

SUGARLOAF TWP. — A man allegedly knocked out a person at Sheetz near Conyngham last Saturday morning.

Justin John Ference, 29, of Hazleton, was arrested after he knocked out another man following a verbal argument, authorities say.

According to a criminal complaint:

Police responded to the Sheetz store for a fight and a person unconscious in the parking lot.

When they got there, Brian David Ray was lying on his back conscious but not alert. His girlfriend told an officer that Ray got into an argument with Ference because Ray was jealous of Ference’s friendship with her.

Ference told police that he punched Ray in the mouth, causing him to fall backward. He said Ray started an argument over Ference placing his arm over his girlfriend’s shoulder.

When Ray fell, he suffered a large contusion on the back of his head. He was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital- Hazleton for treatment.

Ference was arraigned by District Judge Joseph D. Spagnuolo Jr. for simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. He was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

South Carolina man

charged with DUI

WILKES-BARRE TWP.— A South Carolina man was charged with a DUI after he allegedly drove drunk Sunday morning.

Bryant Antonio Henderson, 46, of McCormick, S.C., faces a slew of charges after he allegedly drove drunk after leaving the Mohegan Sun Pocono casino.

According to court records:

Henderson was pulled over by township police at approximately 2:30 a.m.

Officers observed glassy, bloodshot eyes and detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath.

He refused field sobriety tests.

Henderson was arraigned by District Judge Joseph D. Spagnuolo Jr. on charges of DUI, disregarding traffic lanes, driving at a unsafe speed and careless driving.

He was remanded to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $2,500 bail.

Cops: Almost $2K in goods

stolen at Sam’s Club store

WILKES-BARRE TWP. — A Pittston woman was arraigned on a retail theft charge last week for allegedly stealing almost $2,000 of goods at Sam’s Club on Sept. 20.

Tina Maria Latona, 37, is accused of taking merchandise valued at $1,899.

According to a criminal complaint:

Latona asked a store associate to load a 75-inch television into a cart and bring it to the front of the store so she could finish shopping. She purchased items from the store to mask stolen goods via the Sam’s Club phone app.

She presented information from the app to the store greeter when leaving and motioned for an associate to help move the television to her car, despite not purchasing it.

Latona drove off with the stolen merchandise and television without attempting to pay for them.

She was arraigned by District Judge Joseph D. Spagnuolo Jr. and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

P0lice: Woman had

paraphernalia in car

WILKES-BARRE — A city woman was arrested for allegedly having drug paraphernalia and pot in her car.

Erica Lynn Altemose, 24, is facing charges for an incident Sept. 29.

According to court papers:

Police were dispatched to 107 Moyallen St. on a report that a man and woman were in a parked car using drugs.

A female, later identified as Altemose, was sitting in the driver’s seat when police arrived.

She admitted she had recently smoked marijuana after officers told her why they were dispatched to her location. She pulled out a blunt from the car’s console.

Authorities also observed several empty suspected heroin packets stashed in a compartment on the driver’s door. She also had Chore Boy, which is a steel wool scouring pad commonly used in pipes when smoking crack cocaine.

While Altemose was being searched, police found a glass crack pipe in the front of her pants.

She was arraigned by District Judge Joseph D. Spagnuolo Jr. on three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana.

She was released on $1,000 unsecured bail.
